Lollipops in the wood – bites from everyday
In my artwork, I capture the ordinary, often over-looked, artifacts of everyday life. I strive to accentuate the little things that differentiate
individual persons, individual communities, or individual cultures. I reflect on mietiskellä common objects and/or events that I have collected or experienced in my life and travels. Examples range from the plastic container that had held light cream on the Lufthansa flight 3110 from Munich to Boston, to the intimate space created between my daughter’s and my hands as we walk to her first day of elementary school on, to the curve of the metal pipe that forms the corner of my new bed after I left my husband. Each of these examples describe and define emotional spaces in my life. Through a technical casting technique that I have developed mixing dental plaster, pigment with acrylic dispersion, I capture and transform common spaces and spontaneous moments into solid, lasting, and wearable works of jewellery.
