Intro
The exhibition addresses the pollution of the environment through littering, the destruction of nature for short-term gain, but also includes pieces that tell of nature's resilience in the face of these threats, its ability to recover and survive.

Artist list

Wiebke Pandikow
Wiebke Pandikow is a German artist living in Helsinki. She has generally been working with plastic bags since 2014 but this solo exhibition is the first where she is showing works exclusively made using colored bags. With this material she hopes to draw attention to the negative impact of humans on their environment. Littering in Valle del Treja in Italy, which the artist visited, is used as an example of this. Some objects in the exhibition were partly made from plastic waste found on site, and they allude both to discarded pieces of rubbish and to the natural layer of decomposing leaves on the ground.

For whatever reason, by whatever means, these human objects have come to be there - lost, discarded, purposely dumped. They become strange artefacts: undeniably part of the natural environment wherever there are people and yet not part of it, outside of the organic cycles of decay and rebirth. They are out of place, invading, but somehow also lost and sad. An integral part of our civilization, yet discarded and separate. Removed from us. Things so intimately connected to our lives as pieces of jewelry. But now without their wearer. They are the reality of new anthropocene ecosystems in which the artificial and the organic have become forcibly intertwined.
