Saturated by Claire Kahn

Amongst the foothills of New Mexico’s Black Mesa Valley, the artist creates necklaces and bracelets in bead crochet that visualize mesmerizing places in time.

The jewelry artist has also had a fruitful career in design, from conceptualizing graphic interiors and treatments, to the choreography of water in movement and light. With the additional release of her wall piece series for Saturated, this part of Kahn’s history and expertise comes to life.

The two-dimensional, geometric paintings involve progressing additions of ink and acrylic, with the exception of one piece whose layers of mounting board slowly give way to concave and convex topographic patterns that play with shadow and light.

Visual conversations amongst this grouping of fine art works brightly coalesce to complement her beaded arrangements.

Pieces infused with bright and softened hues are placed in direct contrast to the dense sensation of saturated bliss. The artist captures the essence of the season in its pure, tasteful abundance, inspired by the wholeness this year’s tidings bring: the great pleasure of togetherness once again.

Patina has given me the opportunity to include works in Saturated that use different mediums. Over the years, I have worked in bead crochet, cut paper, and ink and acrylic paint to explore and express my interest in color and pattern.
