Intro
Christoph Finkel shows his work at the Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein in Munich. In his sculptures, he tries to recognise the form of the wood that nature has already given it. He lets himself be inspired by the individual characteristics so that after many hours of work, a unique work emerges.

Artist list

Christopher Finkel
The sculptor Christoph Finkel works almost exclusively with old mountain wood. He finds the trees that have fallen due to avalanches and old age, the Allgäu Alps. He is interested in their growth, history, and character. A long process of creation follows, from the selection of the wood to the finished work. All the creative will is directed towards the natural growth of the tree to give it back its original character.
Wood is alive and changeable - it deforms and develops cracks and takes on its own shape and form. Finkel tries to recognise the form of the wood that nature has already given it. He lets himself be inspired by the individual characteristics so that after many hours of work, a unique work emerges.

For his sculptures, the artist won the Bavarian State Prize in March 2019. In 2014, he was also awarded the Hessian State Prize for German Arts and Crafts and for the second time with the Oberallgäu Art Prize for the second time.
