Towards a new international image of cork

2ndSKIN cork jewellery is an international project starting in Portugal.
ESAD, Superior School of Arts and Design, Matosinhos, and DesignLocal, Cultural Association, Santa Maria da Feira, developed it as a partnership project.

Cork is the 2ndSKIN of the cork oak tree as well as jewellery is also the human body 2ndSKIN.

2ndSKIN is a double meaning concept:
In this project he cork oak 2ndSKIN represents the main supply material. From the anthropological point of view, a jewel is a symbolic mediator and also a temporary human 2ndSKIN with which identities and difference can be expressed, performing a personal public image. This project interconnects these meanings, the biological side and the social one.

2ndSKIN cork jewellery includes a wide programme.
Two main events are to name out: a symposium, with the participation of guest jewellery-artists, and an international itinerant exhibition.
Former and current students from ESAD, as well as Socrates/Erasmus guest students, also worked on this concept. A selected group will participate in the itinerant exhibition.
During the symposium, several simultaneous events will occur with the collaboration of other partners.

Curators: Ana Campos (ESAD) and João Real (DesignLocal).
