Florence Jewellery Week 2020 is canceled.
Ever since we entered the COVID emergency we have endured and continued to work on our beautiful project as in the past months, every day, imagining the set-ups, the meetings, and talking with the involved people, with the press office, as if this confinement and this shutdown did not concern us, that things would work out, and we would meet in Florence at the end of May.
In the end, we had to take note of reality, and accept that there are now more important things than our project to think about. FJW 2020 cannot take place. Exhibitions, conferences, workshops, meetings are canceled. It is not a postponement: a project with these characteristics cannot simply be moved to another date. To put together the group of artists, the collections and the curators that we had magically managed to combine, is impossible, so we will remain licking our wounds for a short time.
It was a joy to verify our organizational capacity, and have had confirmation of the esteem, credibility and respect from all the people and institutions who had joined the project with so much enthusiasm. We apologize to everyone who helped and supported the preparation of the project. We apologize to the partners, the artists, the curators who had accepted our invitation, with all the people who waited to come to Florence for this particularly rich and interesting event.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of our PREZIOSA project, and also the 35th anniversary of the school: there was also a big collective party in the city park. We will have a party when we return to school, with students, teachers and friends, and we will start working on a new project, in Florence or elsewhere.
