Intro
Since the Pinakothek der Moderne opened in 2002, the PIN. Party has been the social and cultural highlight of the Munich autumn art season. At this extraordinary event, a lively and festive social occasion is combined with the practical commitment to the arts, all true to the slogan “LET’S PARTY 4 ART“.
On 18 November 2017, the PIN. Party will, for the 15th time, bring together around 800 invited guests from the worlds of politics, commerce, and culture, with the common aim of supporting the Pinakothek der Moderne, Museum Brandhorst, and Munich as a prominent center for the arts.

The absolute highlight of the event is a charity auction packed with works by A-list artists, during which artists, gallerists, and collectors will auction around 60 works of art by internationally acclaimed artists to raise funds for the museum. The auction is presided over by the auctioneer Andreas Rumbler of CHRISTIE’S. KARL & FABER Kunstauktionen will be in charge of the silent as well as the live auction. For the first time, bidders from all over the world will have the opportunity to bid live via the internet. The lots include works by Monika Baer, Phyllida Barlow, Georg Baselitz, Kerstin Brätsch, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Tracey Emin, Fischli/Weiss, Yang Fudong, Katharina Grosse, Jeppe Hein, Isaac Julien, Daniel Knorr, Michael Krebber, A.R. Penck, Gerwald Rockenschaub, Josh Smith, Franz Erhard Walther, Andy Warhol and Amelie von Wulffen.

The donations raised at the PIN. Party help to support many projects of the Pinakothek der Moderne and Museum Brandhorst. Among them are the reinstalling of works by Daniel Knorr and Olaf Metzelfor the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, solo exhibitions by Kerstin Brätsch and Seth Price at Museum Brandhorst, a solo exhibition of works by Georgian artist Thea Djordjadze at the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, the presentation of the FUTURO House that was acquired for The Design Museum in 2016 or the exhibition “Ephemeral Urbanism“ at the Architekturmuseum.

The PIN. Party also plays an important role in the expansion of the collections of the Pinakothek der Moderne. The range of works that have been acquired this year spans from photographies by Ilit Azoulay and Joachim Brohm to works on canvas by Monika Baer and Katharina Grosse, works by Isa Genzken or a drawing by Franz Erhard Walther on to a video by Mikola Ridnyi, an aluminium relief by Olaf Metzel or molas by the Guna-Indians.

PIN. also provides various forms of support for art education, which is a central concern of the Pinakothek der Moderne Foundation as well. In 2017, PIN. donations have helped continue the much-loved programmes PIN.OCCHIO for children with limited exposure to art as well as the intercultural programme YES, WE‘RE OPEN!. Another long-term project is the Explorer’s Tour that aims to guide children from the age of 6 through the different departments of the Pinakothek der Moderne together with their parents. The tour will be published in six languages and is conceived as a gift on the occasion of the museum’s 15th anniversary.

For more than five decades, the society of friends has acquired over 1,200 artworks for the Pinakothek der Moderne and supported a significant number of exhibition and education projects. For its nearly 900 members, PIN. offers a broad program of guided tours, artist talks, studio visits, and diverse trips.

The lots are on display at the Pinakothek der Moderne from Saturday 04 November 2017 in the Pinakothek der Moderne. On Saturday 11 November 2017 at 04.00 pm and on Tuesday 14 November 2017 and Thursday, 16 November 2017, respectively at 06.30 pm, the curators will hold a guided tour of the previewed works. Participants are requested to register by email to party@pin-freunde.de.

A preview of all works up for auction with further information in English and German is available on the website www.pin-freunde.de. Collectors who are interested in bidding but cannot attend the event in person may arrange to place bids by telephone or in writing, or online from 04 until 17 November 05.00 pm on www.karlundfaber.de/kaufen/auktionen/pin-benefizauktion/
