Intro
As a major international event, Parcours Bijoux 2017 presents more than 50 projects, including exhibitions, performances, talks and an auction sale, bringing together artists and researchers from numerous countries.
This new cultural episode will perpetuate the ambitions and achievements of the Circuits Bijoux 2013, when over four hundred jewellers from within and outside France came together around sixty actions co-organised by the association D’un bijou à l’autre and the Ateliers d’Art de France, in a landmark exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs.

Since contemporary jewellery has escaped strict definition for over fifty years, it may well be that no definition can satisfactorily encompass the wide panorama provided by the individual approaches of each artist. Multiple and multifaceted, this jewellery features as many shapes and interpretations as there are designers, and thus as many journeys, skills, personal histories, and intents. While neither costume nor high-end jewellery, it might dare be both at the same time. It might be expressive, poetic, playful, delightful, upsetting, scary – or simply beautiful. This jewellery has always negotiated its way through the very heart of the interdisciplinarity so typical of today’s art world. It is a complex world in itself, lying somewhere between contemporary art, craftsmanship, fashion, applied art and design. Of course, in this approach, one area is common to its great family-at- large: adornment, involving the object and the body. And the avant-garde sometimes even frees itself of both these aspects and of materials and techniques as well.

So the association D’un bijou à
l’autre stands for an open and generous approach to an organic practice nurtured by a huge diversity of works and techniques. A pluralistic jewellery made up of singular perspectives.

Parcours Bijoux 2017 aims to create loyalty in a community of enlightened amateurs and knowledgeable collectors, attract new audiences and inspire vocations. It sets the stage for a dialogue between various media and cultures and contributes to the development of theoretical thinking by bringing together sociologists, anthropologists, and historians. This year, the event is once again being supported by private and institutional partners. The involvement of Paris City Hall, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Comité Francéclat and the Institut National des Métiers d’Art will certainly help to establish it as a long-term occasion. But above all, it will ensure that contemporary jewellery becomes a permanent feature of the cultural landscape.
