The cyclical International Jewellery Competition is the leading event of Legnica SILVER Festival, organised by the Gallery of Art in Legnica since 1979. The competition is purely artistic, favouring the artist's idea and statement on a given theme. The interpretation of the theme and the artistic value of the statement is the basic criteria for qualifying works for the exhibition. The theme of the 30th edition of the competition is TOUCH.
We are saying goodbye to the year 2021, which - despite the pandemic uncertainty accompanying us - was a return to in-person contacts with art. The realisation of this year's Legnica SILVER Festival - along with its main event, the 29th International Jewellery Competition Still Human? - was quite a challenge for us. The Festival and the Competition were held in a hybrid formula, which - after a pandemic break in 2020 - at least partly enabled us to recall the atmosphere of Legnica's artistic jewellery festival and to reach out to our friends from all over the world.

It is now time to look ahead and announce the theme of the 30th International Jewellery Competition. The themes of Legnica's competitions traditionally refer to socially relevant and current issues - we are deeply convinced that the voice of artists is often the voice of society, a voice that has been resonating during Legnica's competitions for years.

The topic of the 30th International Jewellery Competition is: TOUCH.

We encourage you to reflect on what touch is - a sense that is especially close to jewellery, carrying with it a feeling of intimacy and safety, but also - in recent times - of fear and danger. How - as humankind - do we find ourselves in the era of digital media, touch screens, the disappearance of direct interpersonal relations, and pandemic reality?
We invite you to take part in the artistic debate and undertake the topic proposed by us, and we are looking forward to seeing the results of your work. The deadline for submitting entries is 27 March 2022. Please find attached the rules of the competition and the entry form.
At the same time, we would like to inform you that the culmination of next year's Festival, to which we have already invited you, will be celebrated on 13-14 May 2022.

The 30th International Jewellery Competition TOUCH is organized by the Gallery of Art in Legnica within the framework of Legnica SILVER Festival.
This time - in the online era - we would like to refer to the feature that defines jewellery in its most material and - at the same time - the most sensual aspect. Let us invoke touch - the first sense through which we get to know the world, which gives us a sense of security, intimacy, and trust. Jewellery worn on the body, coming into contact with skin receptors, provoking haptic contact, has always been the wearer’s closest prop. We offer you a contemporary interpretation of this nostalgia in the hope that the objects of the most personal use will not be replaced by touch screens.
/prof. Sławomir Fijałkowski

Just as a piece of jewellery that is worn all the time is only noticed when it is taken off or missing, in recent times human touch has been acutely noticeable by its absence.  We have become most aware of the need for touch and connection but also the fear of touch as a source of contamination and danger.
How can jewellery explore the sense of touch, physically and emotionally? What can the sense of touch convey?  What sort of touch?  How does it feel?  Could it comfort you?  Could it change you?  What might its impact be? How can this non-visual characteristic of jewellery be communicated?
 /prof. Caroline Broadhead

The aim of the Competition is a wide presentation of the latest achievements of contemporary jewellery art. The works should be jewellery in a broad sense of the word, represent a high artistic and executive level, include an original creative concept and a clear reference to the theme of the Competition. The Organizers do not set any limits as to the materials and techniques used. However, emphasizing the 40-year tradition of the Festival, we suggest the use of silver. The competition works are evaluated by an international jury. The jury qualifies es the works for the post-contest exhibition and awards statutory prizes. The jury’s decisions are final – they cannot be challenged in the court of law.
