DEADLINE: 10/06/2018

A four day technical workshop by Jewelry maker and researcher of Ancient Greek techniques Akis Goumas. Accompanied by a one day visit at the Archaeological Museum of Athens, with an extensive tour and talk, focusing on the Mycenaean and Prehistoric collections.
This is the first part of a series of workshops on the topic of ancient goldsmithing techniques.
The workshop will start with a presentation and a talk about the methodology of studying archaeological findings, the tool marks and the techniques.
During these 4 days each participant will make the basic working tools (such as a wooden hammer, a bronze oil lamp and a blow pipe), based on the knowledge of the Late Bronze Age practices.
The lamp with the soft flame and the blowpipe will be the tools to explore the qualities of fire (annealing, melting small pieces of silver to make granules, autogenous soldering, etc.)
While practicing experimentation we will learn about the technique of granulation, (making granules, exploring and understanding colloidal soldering).
The participants will bring their own silver (1000 or 925), in sheet form (0, 6-0, 8 mm thick and dimensions at least 10x10 cm.)
We will experiment on granulation according to the results of the archaeological studies. After their submission the participants will get all the details for the preparations of the program.
Participants: 5-8
Daily program:10:00 - 14:00 h and 15:00 - 17:00 h
Working hours: 28 h + visit to Archaeological Museum of Athens
