A jewellery course by Ruudt Peters, assistant Ineke Heerkens
After the successes of the last years, this year Ruudt Peters is beginning his workshop under the title fly now. Peters is connected as professor at Ädellab, Konstfack University College of art, craft and design in Sweden. Through Opere he follows up his teaching with a private programme intended for students or graduates of art academies and artists/designers who seek to deepen their work. Every year an international group of jewellery makers participate in his workshops.
Theme.
The workshop fly now is being held in the countryside of the Southern Netherlands. fly now is a workshop where you will overview your way of working. Like a helicopter above your head. You will fly over borders. Go fast with high speed and go deep as in a free fall. Fly now teaches you to fly in difficult circumstances. This means that you will get in contact with yourself, your source, and the way you are making work-jewellery.
We will enjoy the fresh air in the surrounding, formulate our own positions, and translate this into our work. fly now is about taking another view at our contemporary experience of flying, making a statement about how you can relate to gravity now. Artists and students are stimulated to produce work around this idea. In doing so, it is important that not only rational reflection, but also the subconscious enters into the work process. Ultimately, jewellery remains a frame of reference.
The course is built on step-by-step education in which the end product is not the most important goal. “The goal is the means and the means is the goal” (M. Gandhi). The emphasis lies on personal guidance and development. The participants are given the tools with which to continue this process on their own. By means of direct action people learn to take steps. During the course the group will cook together, and group discussions on the work will be held during the meals.
