DIVA invites goldsmith Giovanni Corvaja for a five-day masterclass in Studio DIVA. He shares his knowledge about working with fine wires in precious metals, the choice of alloys, tools and equipment and their sourcing, technical and creative solutions and the practical experiencing will be covered in depth.
Are you professionally active as a jewellery designer, silver or goldsmith? Or are you an ambitious student? This masterclass might be a unique opportunity for you.
Giovanni Corvaja has dedicated more than 20 years in developing and researching methods for making and using fine wires in jewellery. In this five day masterclass, the participants will get acquainted with the various solutions to the problems occurring while making and handling fine wires. You will discover new forms of perhaps familiar material and be encouraged in thinking creatively at new uses and different approaches to it.
For whom?
This masterclass is for professional makers, jewellery and crafts artists, as well as ambitious students that are interested in handling fine wires. Participants are expected to have competent bench skills and an open and inquisitive attitude.
Language: English.
Participants: Maximum 8 people.
Dates: Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2019.
Time: 10am to 5pm (including one hour for lunch).
Price: 650 € (including daily lunch and one evening dinner).
Materials and tools: Most materials and tools will be provided. Participants can bring their own hand tools.
About the teacher:
Giovanni Corvaja (b.1971, Padua, Italy) graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with a Master degree in the field of art jewellery. After his studies, he returned to Padua where he pursued his artistic career in goldsmithing.
He has been exhibiting his work internationally since 1989 and presented his pieces in more than 150 solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He is renowned as the creator of the mythical Golden Fleece Collection, a series of five unique pieces made from hand-spun golden fur. The epical collection has been followed by the Golden Handkerchief, a piece made from hand-woven golden fabric.
About Studio DIVA
Studio DIVA is an atelier for jewellery and silversmithing at the DIVA museum. The sessions are a combination of theory and practice and designed to recognize the value of our intangible cultural heritage and nurture it. The atelier welcomes both specialists and amateurs. We have a suitable programme for everyone.
For specialists and professionals, we run master-classes in specific traditional and new techniques. For those new to the branch, DIVA offers residency opportunities in the atelier. Future silversmiths and jewellery designers can develop their technical skills and creative talent here.
Amateurs can follow workshops throughout the year and our summer silversmithing ateliers are a regular part of our offering.
