(...) The course will explore the specific potentials of this material by means of kneading, cutting, dipping, melting, bonding, dripping (...)
Point of departure of the workshop with Peter Bauhuis is working in and with wax.
You will explore the specific potentials of this material by means of kneading, cutting, dipping, melting, bonding, dripping, etc. In a second step, you will transform the resulting wax models into metal, by the process known as “lost wax casting.” Your creative collaboration with Peter Bauhuis will focus especially on hollow forms, in jewelry and small vessels. Concrete descriptions of volumes, surfaces and capacity, inside and outside, and the relationship of shapes or bodies to space, will serve as criteria for your work and discussions.
The special requisites and characteristics of the method – configurating casting feeds, castability of pieces, metal melting temperatures, oxidations, and the colors of alloys – will be an important part of the course and enter your planning and design process. Peter Bauhuis looks forward to an intensive week of work with you.
