Intro
Melissa Cameron has created a collection with the concept of creating as many pieces as possible from just ‘One Design’. In this workshop the artist challenges you to do the same. The artist supplies the students with a laser cut sheet of designs and invites them to create fresh pieces of work that in the end will be displayed in the gallery alongside her metal pieces.
Melissa Cameron regularly issues a design challenge to herself. How many different objects can she create from one pattern?
This is your chance to see what you can create during the One Design Workshop using Melissa’s guiding principles. You’ll be part of a group working to make fresh pieces of work from the same laser cut design in timber.
The class will take place alongside the gallery space, to ensure that the new works do not duplicate any of the pieces already in the gallery. The only additions to the palette are silk thread and a set of artist-made brooch pins, though of course you can sand and treat the timber. All of the elements of the pattern must be used, and the works must all be wearable.
The new works will be displayed in the gallery alongside the metal pieces – and you’ll be acknowledged alongside your work – plus you can take your work home at the end of the exhibition.
