The workshop is about taking another view at our contemporary experience of nature, making a statement about how one can relate to nature now.
Theme:
The workshop now tree is being held in the countryside of the Southern Netherlands, in a landscape dominated by pasture land with trees. It appeared that this environment inspired artists to match themselves against it. Nature is constantly present in now tree, but as the title may already indicate, not in a romantic manner. We cherish warm emotional feelings for nature, but would rather not think about the wood industrial processes that precede the wood in our houses. Now Tree is about both. We will enjoy the beautiful landscape in the area, formulate our own positions, and translate this into our work. Now Tree is about taking another view at our contemporary experience of nature, making a statement about how one can relate to nature now. Artists and students are stimulated to produce work around this idea. In doing so, it is important that not only rational reflection, but also the subconscious enters into the work process. Ultimately, jewellery remains a frame of reference.
The course is built on step-by-step education in which the end product is not the most important goal. The goal is the means and the means is the goal (M. Gandhi). The emphasis lies on personal guidance and development. The participants are given the tools with which to continue this process on their own. By means of direct action people learn to take steps. During the course the group will cook together, and group discussions on the work will be held during the meals.
A jewellery course by Ruudt Peters, assistant Ineke Heerkens
After the successes of the last years, this year Ruudt Peters is beginning his workshop under the title now tree.
