Susan Cross: Gathering and Expanding Ideas

This course explores drawing and the interpretation and development of this through collage and model making towards ideas for contemporary jewellery.

You will begin by drawing out on location; gathering and recording visual information using a wide variety of media and techniques, the emphasis being focused on close observation and detail. Through experimental mark making qualities such as texture, density and transparency might be overlaid for example by linear structures and forms in a playful and lively way. An introduction to mono-printing will be demonstrated at the start of the course so that this liberating drawing technique can be integrated when collecting source material.

Through a process of selection and abstraction drawings will then be developed through collage and model making in the studio.
By the end of the course you will have developed a sequence of three-dimensional models that have been translated from your two-dimensional starting points.
