From November 27 to December 1, 2017, the workshop Form and Colour of Titanium Jewellery and the conference about Form & Jewellery took place in The College of Crafts, China Academy of Arts.
About the Workshop
Form and Color of Titanium Jewellery: The objective was to learn how to transform titanium using the common tools of the goldsmiths, but also to help us a bit with new technologies. During the reception, I handed Wang Zhenghong Deputy Dean of the College of Crafts, China Academy of Arts, the book éclat, written by the professor of the EASD Valencia Carlos Pastor and in which my work appears on page 130. Then the course began with the delivery of dossiers. The course consisted of: The shape, union with other metals, color possibilities, safety, chemical formulas, properties of titanium and its maintenance.
The students were really very observant and of great skill. The cultural fusion and the transmission of knowledge were excellent. The course counted with the participation of 24 third grade students of jewelry. The translation of English into Chinese was done by Assistant Professor Yanli Duan.
At the end of the course, we shared gifts between teachers and with students Zabel and May who made me as escorts in the tourist visits.
About the Conference
At the conference, I talked about the connections between Spain and China, arrivals through the silk route, about my personal evolution from artisan to artist, of conceptual thinking and formal language and of my method for telling a story with a jewel. Finally, I talked about my collection "Nothing is what it seems" and then they were able to physically see and touch some pieces of this collection. / José Marín
