Statement: The Unburyable series is the end-result of Tamara Eisenstein’s study of her identity, which bears the marks of two genocides: the Holocaust and the Armenian genocide. The former is plainly visible, whereas the latter lies buried deep within. Eisenstein’s collection shines a spotlight on the denial of the Armenian genocide by incorporating elements of both cultures into the jewelry. For the Jewish aspect of her work, Eisenstein was inspired by Jewish prayers and burials, namely the modest aesthetic and the white of the prayer shawl and burial furnishings. Conversely, traditional Armenian ornaments celebrate life with rich patterns found in textile and architecture.
