Kachina by Hsinyu Candy Chu

Brooch  /  Figurative   Narrative

Hopi is one of the Native American tribe. They believe that all things in this world possess two things: the visible object and a spirit counterpart. Kachina doll head, squirrel and horse are separated chocolate modules but when the three parts connect together they make a complete Kachina doll which one can use as a brooch. The idea is that the parts of the Kachina doll can be separated and they can combine like a puzzle.

This jewelry and chocolate project was a collaboration between me and a graphic designer Grace Min Shan Lee who designs the graphics of Kachina. Both of us were so inspired by the Native American jewelry collector Charles Mo who lives closely bounded to Native American culture,
religion
and spirituality.
