Echo by Josefine Rønsholt Smith

I am interested in the exploration of our relationships withjewellery, and the ways in which we connect with hand crafted objects in particular. I believe that cultural contexts play a defining role in our attraction to jewellery and I seek to move the boundaries of these norms. The Echo series is based on the shape of my hands. I have collected sketches of parts of my hand, mirrored them sideward to form little symmetric or twin bodies. These bodies have reflected or imitated themselves in Zinc, Wood and Copper, materials that are traditionally used for water pipes or furniture. They have been constructed by slow traditional crafts techniques as well as quick and more industrial ways of achieving three dimensional objects. Together they perform as sensual counterparts to each other as brooches and necklaces.
