Statement: A pattern is a repeated sequence of shapes that follows a specific order and rhythm. Inspired by wallpapers used in interior design, Noah Kaplan worked with rotational symmetry and reflections to create a series of repeated textile patterns. Using traditional jewelry-making, 3D printing, and gemstone setting techniques, Kaplan translated the two-dimensional textile designs into three-dimensional metal objects. “When I work with replicated shapes and multiple instances of the same elements, I enter a meditative state. I eliminate the noise from my design until I find a quiet precision,” says Kaplan.
