Hair of the Wood by Manami Aoki

Brooch  /  Conceptual
Talente catalogue.

In our general impression, wood is a hard material. However, I spent a lot of time on hammering and untying it. Through this experimental process, I discovered that each piece of woodblock is composed of their wood-fibers.
I also found that these wooden fibers look like humans hair.
Hair, which is totally messed up and untidy when you wake up.
Therefore, I wanted to fix it tidy with a comb and make it looks impressive.

Jury: The brooches convinced by their sensibility and poetry, by respect for the material and the interest in proportion. They translate the act of combing hair in the material of cypress wood. The jury praised the haptic qualities and the illusionistic aspects of the work.
