Brooch: Chorlito by Patricia Iglesias.Hemp and jute cord, flat cotton cord, cotton, jute and linen threads, burlap cloth remnants, copper and steel needle.. 2020.17 x 6.5 x 5.5 cm.From series: Aike.Statement for Aike series: Connected with my environment and the place I live in, I weave with materials that refer to remote times and ancestral cultures, those that traveled and inhabited the territory of South America with their own guidelines. I knit slowly, as if I were not in this time, as if I were in a different time; point by point, stitch after stitch, I build spaces, bridges, connections, and voids, like the moments and the pieces of history that we need to intertwine. I weave, sew and patch, in fabrics, cords, and wire structures as a metaphor for the evanescent, everything that we don't give a chance to. Employing joining techniques that protect, arrange and rebuild, I gesture a dialogue with the materials and re-signify them.
