Textile: CY15’ by Patrick Bongoy.Recycled rubber, inner tubes, silicone, metal valves and wire. 2023.180 x 175 x 10 cmUnique piece.This woven work has been created using salvaged materials, including inner tubes of tyres, found metals and wire. The rubber has been washed, cut into fine strips and woven into intricate panels which are then layered and manipulated to create a dense, three-dimensional relief. This process draws on traditional basket-making techniques, referencing the physical labour that defines day-to-day life in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, while the regeneration and repurposing of materials, especially rubber, addresses issues of economic exploitation and environmental degradation..
