A sophisticated combination of Baltic amber, polymer and steel. The Jury unanimously agreed the piece should be awarded the grand prize for elegant and simple contemporary piece of jewellery. The way the piece channels and diffuses the light through its facets and surfaces creates a glowing beacon of design.

The winners of the 21st edition of the Amberif Design Award are announced: Marcin Tymiński, Annelisa Mercier, Susanne Elstner. This year the competition subject was "Periphery" the Jury assessed 171 works submitted by 124 artists from 25 countries.
The Jury awarded the following prizes:
The Grand Prize
Marcin Tymiński, Poland
sponsored by Mr Paweł Adamowicz, the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk PLN 10,000:
A sophisticated combination of Baltic amber, polymer and steel. The Jury unanimously agreed the piece should be awarded the grand prize for elegant and simple contemporary piece of jewellery. The way the piece channels and diffuses the light through its facets and surfaces creates a glowing beacon of design.
The Amber Prize
Annelisa Mercier, France
sponsored by the International Amber Association 1 kg of amber :
A direct honesty in the carving of the faces with a rough sculptural quality. The piece demonstrates an intuitive and sensitive handling of this special media.
The Silver Prize
Susanne Elstner, Germany
1 kg of silver:
The jury especially appreciated the contrast between the organic charcoal and amber elements, and the colour difference between the design’s dark density and light transparency. The working of the material suggests an interesting movement which will be augmented when worn on the body.
The Jury decided to award two honorary mentions:
Maren Giloy, GermanyThe Jury agreed this design exemplified the versatility and understanding of amber as a rough or polished material.
Miron Kurtaba, PolandThe Jury appreciated this crisp modern design which references the changing state of amber from liquid to solid.
The Jury selected 16 further works by the following artists for publication in the AMBERIF 2017 Fair Catalogue and for display at the exhibition:
