The WCC•BF keeps the outreach of this artistic discipline along with Munich, Paris, Barcelona etc. In 2017 thanks to the sixth edition of the European triennial for contemporary jewellery. For this edition, Sweden and France along with Belgium inaugurate the Grande Halle des anciens abattoirs with multiple variations of the contemporary jewel.
The jury composed by Leo Caballero (Klimt02), Nevin Arig (artist), David Huycke (artist), Beppe Kessler (artist), Wim Vandekerkhove (gallerist) and Anne Goy (artist).
Decided to award Marion Delarue from France and give a special mention to Helena Johansson Lindell fro Sweden.
Marion Delarue on her work:
I choose the materials which seem to be more suitable for every project and I fully exploit its properties by seeking to conciliate traditional and contemporaneity know-how, craftsman techniques and critical thinking.
The idea of imitation and artifice is evoked through the parrot's image. The backyard poultry admires and envies the parrot: with a plumage of great beauty, it enjoys a privileged relationship with the master, perched on the shoulder where he can parade. Determined to impersonate him, the poultry put their most beautiful feathers together in order to give the illusion of its presence.
Helena Johansson Lindell on her work:
The inspiration I find is in the material itself. Plastic, for example, is often vilified, looked upon as something evil in itself. An alternative would be for us, collectively, to take responsibility for how we treat plastic. Bad taste is something that motivates me.
