Artist list
Aslı Özdemir, Damla Özdemir
Artists Aslı Özdemir and Damla Özdemir transform their two dimensional collages into three dimensional artwork for their shared exhibition “Dimension X” at SODA. Implementing combinations of various forms and materials, these artworks generate new meanings, baffle our perception and explore the different perspectives that an object can create, all of which ultimately question the relationship between the object, person and its existence.
Aslı Özdemir: “(…) I finally found the dimensions I needed; those that extend towards us and are impossible to miss, which jump out right from the core and challenge the very nature of its own existence. These images which encounter a transformation from within are not afraid to move, go or state their very nature even if they have no where else to go in whatever shape or form. They are in constant movement which in fact makes them very still. (…)"
Damla Özdemir: “(…) By means of infinite cyberspace, I use material which I have collected and mix, mess and integrate forms. To combine and actually eliminate its true meaning, to find new meanings or create no meaning at all, to make it meaningful or meaningless; these thoughts are all a form of free connation… I might be at a transitional stage because I want to bring these creations into a more reachable and touchable atmosphere where they can be interactive within its contained world. To be able to feel the surface and see the depth is my main purpose. I am in constant flux between cyberspace and external reality. This in between place is what I call “dimension x”.”
Combining different techniques the artists use a wide range of materials from wood, plexiglass to photographs to place their collages under a different spotlight.
For those that don’t have the chance to see our new exhibition “Dimension X”, we prepared a video tour of the gallery, as well as short interviews with artists Aslı Özdemir and Damla Özdemir. From now on SODA will introduce the artwork and artists of each exhibition at SODAwise.
