Artist list

Vidar Hertov, Catarina Hällzon

Vidar Hertov shows in his exhibition " A Bling-Bling Nature" the inevitable consequences when man destroys nature in search for organic material.
- A trolling spoon in gold creates a tension by throwing it in the lake; the risk of losing it and the chans of bite, Vidar says.
While the mine industry eats energy, pollutes the water and insult human rights the fishing symbolizes unspoiled countryside and recreation. This contrast you will find in places like Kola Peninsula in Russia with some of the most pure water of the world. Not far from there, two mine cities, Nikel and Zapoljarny, have made the surrounding almost sterile by pollution.
Vidar Hertov has his focus on displacement of value. In his Master project in 2006 Konstfack, University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, he used a brand new car and raised a bowl from the car door. In "A Bling Bling Nature" he puts the issue to the edge, we can make trolling spoons in gold but will there be any nature to fish from?

Catarina Hällzon has her roots in Värmland, west Sweden, where the annual moose hunt is important. When her family has hunted an animal, Catarina has taken care of the remains for experimental work like casting silver with moose teeth. In the exhibition "Momentary" Catarina has continued exploring remains of animal material.
- I am looking for the temporary by using fragile material. When the animal material has decomposed there is only the silver "skeleton" left from the jewellery, Catarina says.

Vidar Hertov and Catarina Hällzon are typical contemporary craft artists. Vidar chooses to work conceptually with a social issue and Catarina is combining traditional silver smith technique with none constant material. They both review the contemporary idea of value and what makes something valuable.
