Bio
I live and work outside Lindesberg, a small town outside Örebro in Sweden. My studio is a red cabin with white corners far out in the forest near my home. I studied at Konstfack and got my MFA degree in 2006, I then stayed in Stockholm for some years before moving closer to my hometown and the nature.Statement
Nature plays a significant role in the work I do. It is a bank of material I tend to go back to. I love to go fishing, I hunt for elk and I hike forests. Living in a society that urbanizes faster and faster it has become important to me to keep the nature, the material I get from it and the skills I need to master those materials close. For example, I eat the fish I catch, never taking more than I can eat. Then I tan the skin in a most basic way and turn it into a piece of jewellery. Preserving a trophy and a memory, a memory of my journey but also a memory of how we not so long ago had to do everything ourselves when we needed anything.
I found my grandfather's stable full of the birchbark he never had the chance to use. It was the starting point for my current work. All these techniques that come with mastering a material trigger me. My ancestors needed the birch and its bark in their everyday life. I need to preserve these techniques and pay my respect by mastering them and transform this knowledge into my way of communicating, with my jewellery art.
