Bio
Born in Tehran in 1974, Banafsheh Hemmati is a master’s graduate in industrial design. Her passion for philosophy later led to her obtaining a Ph.D. in philosophy of art. In her doctoral thesis, she has been concerned with the philosophical foundations of the relation between art and geometry. For more than twenty years, Hemmati has been professionally active as a designer-artist, exemplary in founding Banafsheh Hemmati Design Studio in Tehran. She has also attended various festivals as a judge. The significant awards for her professional work include – but are not limited to – Florence’s International Art & Design Competition (2017), A' Design Award (2017), and Fajr International Festival (2016).Statement
Her extensive pursuits in the field of design involve designing furniture, landscape, light, jewelry, and sculpture. Motifs and geometry of Islamic architecture play a major role in her sculptures and jewelry works. Hemmati employs the diverse geometric patterns of Islamic architecture in her creations and, sometimes, by disrupting their rigid order, extends the visual and formal capacities of her works. Her concern in her jewelry and sculptures is a conjunction between art and design. Her approach can be best described as appropriating Islamic geometry.News!
