Christine Bell-Pearson's practice covers painting and ceramics, which includes jewellery. The artist mainly combines porcelain with sterling silver, often adding other elements and embellishments according to what she’s trying to achieve with the design. Many of the pieces are wheel-thrown and later altered, distorted, and assembled.

Paintings and ceramics have been exhibited and are in collections worldwide.

Statement

Both painting and ceramics form the basis of my practice having divided my time and work between New Zealand and England. In terms of technique and visual aspects of the work, there are multiple cross-overs; however, philosophically, there is a wider divide - similar paths but not quite the same journey.

I tend not to give my work individual titles, however the paintings come under the general heading of ‘Dialogues and References’, the small ceramics under the title ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’ and the jewellery ‘Neckpieces’. With the ceramics/jewellery pieces I aim to produce something that is both aesthetically pleasing, timeless and perhaps collectable. For me they are a joy to make and I hope this carries through to the resulting works.

The methods I use, for the jewellery are to combine sterling silver with porcelain which I believe work really well together. I often fire pieces several times at different temperatures to get the aimed-for result. My top temperature is around 1260c. Additional elements are added post-firing as needed to support the design.
The small ceramic works are largely wheel-thrown and manipulated. With these pieces I usually prefer to use high-firing rods, for the colour, rather than silver. As with the neckpiece I work in series with each piece being unique but at the same time interrelated.

My work is for sale through Klimt 02 or directly from me through the contact page of my website. My prices here are €230 plus p+p. and any applicable taxes.
