Bio
Meira Rauta is a jewelry artist based in Helsinki, Finland. Her artistic vision raises from her long experience of making jewelry (since 2008), but also from her two educations in the field: jewelry designer from the Lahti University of Applied Sciences (Degree Programme in Design), and artisan in precious metals from the Salpaus Further Educations. She has taken part in several courses to expand her skills. One of them is the Korean Keum-boo technique, which she has used in many of her works.Finnish State Art Commission acquired her art piece for the Finnish National Gallery’s collections in March 2025. Her works are also in the collections of the Finnish Watch and Jewelry Museum Kruunu and some private collectors. She’s received the Artistar Jewels Network Award in Milan Jewelry Week 2024, which was accompanied by an exhibition in Rome in Galleria Carlo Lucidi from June 6th to August 2nd 2025. Currently, she is preparing for the annual duo show in Helsinki Winter Garden, based on a different theme each year since 2019. In the spring of 2026, there will be a follow-up to the summer 2024 Thousand Years of Jewelry invitational exhibition.
Statement
Jewelry is in the heart of my art. However, I’m fascinated by the idea of how a piece alone may be perceived as a sculptural object when it doesn’t have a body connection, as if it would be awakened to be jewelry only in the vicinity of the body. For me, the nature and visuality of the work take precedence over usability in jewelry art. I wish that things like the tension of contrasts (like the roughness of natural rocks against the coolness of finished metal) and the power of the name of the work resonate in the audience as they do within me.Photo by Anni Martikainen
