Bio

Lynne Speake lives and works in a small hamlet of houses just outside Redruth in Cornwall, UK. 10 years after completing a Fine Art (painting) degree at Reading University she then moved to Cornwall to complete an MA at Falmouth University (Distinction). Lynne creates sculptural assemblages of found and gifted treasures sourced from Cornish mining trails, boatyards, beaches and forests. I love that there is a hidden beauty within these often unnoticed treasures; hidden works of art just waiting to be discovered. Discarded by man and shaped by mother natures elements.
In 2017 Lynne created the international jewellery collective 'Precious.Collective'. 6 years after it's conception it now boasts almost 400 members worldwide and over 19.5k followers on instagram. Precious has staged 8 international group exhibitions including a 5 day 'on-line jewellery week', have a show just about to open in London and 3 more are in the planning stages including a second visit to Munich Jewellery Week in 2024.

Statement

I make Stuff ...

Stuff you can wear ...
Stuff you can hang on your wall ...
Stuff you can put on your coffee table ...
or
wear to go shopping ...
or
disco dancing

The stuff that I make is both Jewellery and Sculpture ...
both to me are equal.

It is not my concern which is chosen to describe this stuff that I create ...
The critic or the audience may make that choice ...

The stuff that I make is from things that others …
leave behind,
discard,
or
just do not notice.

It is stuff that I find when walking my dogs on Cornish beaches
Along old Cornish Mining trails
in Cornish woods
or
In the Cornish boatyard where we used to live together.

The individual elements dictate the final sculptural form ...
I listen to what they tell me to do ...
through their own language ...
A language of line
texture
colour
structure
spirit
&
form.

Individual parts tell me where they want to be ...
who they want to be friends with ...
and
who they'd hate to lie beside.

These parts use a language that is common to both Jewellery and Sculpture ...
there is no difference.

Whether you would wear my stuff tho ...

well ...

that …

is a whole new conversation !!
