Artist list

Karin Johansson
COLORS is an exhibition rooted in the artist’s appreciation of natural beauty, fully experienced in the Capri Island in the early fall of 2023, in the context of a cultural exchange with other artists, scientists and journalists. Nature’s complex richness and the creative environment were constructive stimuli for the foundation of Johansson’s new work, a natural continuation of her always playful, beautifully colored pieces, with a return to the enameling technique the artist appreciates and enjoys. “The fact that enamel is its own material, not just a color, makes it special. Even in the thinnest layer of transparent enamel you can achieve depth and perspective. Something both near and distant, macro and micro at once.”

The artist documents her experiences in notebooks and with photography. One can truly see the shimmering sea water, and almost feel the sand and a breeze in the exhibited pieces, which are mostly necklaces, and brooches and earrings. “One photo, one palette, one necklace.”

Karin Johansson holds an MFA from the HDK- Valand Academy of Art and Design, Gothenburg University, Sweden, where she was also a Professor of Jewelry Art between 2007 and 2019. Johansson is an international guest lecturer, and a board member and expert adviser for numerous Swedish awards and organizations. Between 1997 and 2024 she was co-organizer of hnoss gallery/hnoss initiative in Gothenburg, Sweden. The artist exhibited worldwide, and her work is part of prestigious museum’s collections as well as of private collections. She is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
