Artist list
Katja Prins
Katja Prins will always be intrigued by the ever increasing interaction between the human body and the seemingly unlimited possibilities of modern technology. In her jewellery there are no explicit points of view, nor recognizable anecdotes, the work is more about suggesting than opinions. She makes ambivalent objects in which beauty is combined with an unidentifiable uneasiness.
The expressive meanings of certain materials are often the startingpoint for a new group of pieces. In her graduationwork rubber and latex were the catalyst, later the clinical associations of glass and porcelain provided a context. In the latest jewellery, shown in the exhibition at Galerie Rob Koudijs, classic red sealing-wax takes the lead. Sealing-wax
implies authorization , while at the same time the plastic quality tells very different stories.
In these pieces Katja Prins explores the contrast between soft and solid, between vulnerable and machine made. An exploration of the world in which modern man tries to maintain himself.
