Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San Francisco presents new metalwork by two British artists. Timothy Information Limited presents "Demonstration 2". Also showing an installation by fellow Londoner Helen Carnac.
Artist list
Timothy Information Limited, Helen Carnac
About his political badges and objects, Timothy states: "In an unknown place, at an unknown time, on an unknown day, in an unknown year, a demonstration is taking place. The usual cast of characters is there: the battle worn, the naive, the angry, those carrying agendas, the confused and the passengers. Each badge in ‘Demonstration 2’ portrays someone involved on that day. Some are the demonstrators, some the police, some the stewards and some are just people caught up in the proceedings. The badges reflect the feelings, thoughts, beliefs and observations of some of the players during that eventful day." Timothy's intriguing objects are sometimes obvious, but at other times the true meaning is open to interpretation.
Helen Carnac is a metalsmith and academic based in London. As a maker, Carnac is interested in her work being centered self-consciously on the explicit connection between material, process and maker, with an emphasis on deliberation and reflection. Her exploration of industrial vitreous enamel and processes on copper and steel plates is concerned with sustainability, ethics and values within the arena of metals in the global context.
Carnac has created a new piece for the Velvet da Vinci show called ‘Cluster 3’. This 20 foot tall installation is made up of many pieces that can be worn individually or in groups. Each piece represents a fleeting visit to Carnac’s workshop, as well as the time at which they were composed. Each has been made quickly in response to the material. Many of the materials have been found and some recycled have been from other projects.
