Gone with the wind
The exhibition Gone with the Wind in the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen shows work by dozens of high-profile Dutch designers of fashion, jewellery and accessories, stylists, photographers and illustrators. Together they give an inspiring picture of the wealth of ideas latent in the Dutch world of fashion and how it relates to the Dutch dress tradition. The renowned fashion designers Alexander van Slobbe and Francisco van Benthum act as guest curators.
In Gone with the Wind the creative ideas of the Dutch world of fashion are central. In a unique way this exhibition combines contemporary designs with traditional costumes and objects from the museum collection. At twenty locations in the Museum and the Museum Park, new and old designs visualize typically Dutch themes, such as the ‘Orange’ festivities in honour of the Royal Family, andthe use of bright floral patterns and folding in traditional costumes.
Room 3
Jewellery / Liesbeth den besten a.o.
Contemporary Dutch jewellery designers have drawn their inspiration from regional jewellery and traditional costumes from places such as Marken, Urk and Staphorst, and from old traditions and crafts. In some cases they have based this on themes such as wedding or mourning jewellery; in other cases it was the choice of material or everyday life that offered points of departure, such as the knots made in ropes by fishermen, the traces left by the hard life on antique jewellery, the decline, the wear and tear and the endless repairs. Jewellery expert Liesbeth den Besten selected the contemporary designers Willemijn de Greef, Ted Noten, Evert Nijland, Lucy Sarneel, Robert Smit and Francis Willemstijn who made new work for this exhibition. Besides that she selected traditional jewellery from the museum collection. And she invited artist Joke Robaard to make a video report entitled Panorama, in conjunction with Maarten Theuwkens.
