Katja Prins
Interaction is a key concept in the work of Katja Prins. Interaction between whoever is wearing jewellery, and the other – between the human body and modern technology – between seething nature and cool intellect. And now there is yet another interaction: that’s between the things that fascinate Prins. The book The Uncanny Valley, published in 2009, offered an overview of everything that Prins had produced in the preceding twelve years. Not only was this interesting for collectors, it also gave the artist herself a fresh look at her work. It proved the breeding ground for a new collection. Unfinished ideas and unrecognized possibilities have thus been able to sprout and flourish. The execution adds a new aspect: a thin, flexible steel cable winds through materials, shapes and associations, linking them into necklaces that appear two-dimensional.

It is common these days for scientific researchers to quite intentionally fuzz the boundaries between their areas of work, in order to gain new insights. For the same reason, in her work Prins has merged the phenomena which have previously been her inspiration: the symbiosis between man and machine, plastic surgery, and gene and nano technology. Interaction bearing witness to the changing times.
