It does not happen all at once but gradually finds a place from which to begin. Only later does it become evident that something has already continued in a different way.

Just as light adds nothing but simply reveals what is already there, becoming, too, only reveals itself once the conditions for it emerge.

No transformation begins from nothing. Every new state grows out of something that came before, carrying traces of what preceded it: sometimes clearly, sometimes only faintly. At times, the original remains almost untouched; at others, only a trace or a framework endures. The new is not the opposite of the previous, but its continuation in another form.

Continuity is the ability to hold both the original and that which is still taking shape at the same time. Something may disappear even as something else is only beginning to emerge. There is no clear boundary between them, no single moment when one ends and the other begins. There is only becoming, a process, through which even what we perceive as familiar is transformed.


Mirjam Aun graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a BA in Jewellery and Blacksmithing in 2023. She has participated in international group exhibitions in Estonia, Finland, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and France, and has taken part in professional projects in both Estonia and Germany. Prior to studying jewellery, she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. The artist's practice explores the relationship between visible and invisible processes. Working across contemporary jewellery and objects, she favours traditional materials such as stone and silver.
