In a world where fleeting experiences and ever-increasing consumption threaten to push our values towards extreme superficiality, I look for ways to transform industrial waste into beautiful and powerful jewellery.
Artist list
Tarvo Porroson
In his work, Tarvo Porroson uses materials that at first glance might easily be considered useless, or even simply rubbish. He creates jewellery from materials commonly found in the metal industry, the same ones that are used to construct the world around us: the world we often take for granted and regard as ordinary and self-evident.
The jewellery he creates is above all intended for the modern human who understands that the world is a whole. Past, present and future meet in the eternal moment within ourselves. A human who understands his own history, where (s)he comes from, and knows where (s)he is headed. A human who stands firmly in his experience, looks towards the future, and acts in the present.
Jewellery made from old files, lathe shavings, cast-iron fragments, discarded tools, pieces cut from ship hulls, and a pinch of silver scattered here and there, designed for a human who thinks for themselves.
The collection on display offers everything needed both for everyday wear and for special occasions.
Tarvo Porroson is a blacksmith, designer, jewellery artist and inventor from south of Estonia. He graduated from Vana-Vigala Technical and Service School with a degree in blacksmithing and has a BA from the Estonian Academy of Arts with in Jewellery and Blacksmithing. Working primarily with steel, Porroson seeks to address most emerging challenges by making use of scrap metal and discarded or otherwise purposeless objects. In 2013, Porroson won second place in a design competition for men's accessories organised by the Estonian Association of Designers. The award recognised his series of rings made from worn-out files as well as lathe shavings joined through forge welding. In his first solo exhibition From Dust, Porroson continues his exploration of giving new value to overlooked and discarded materials.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 10 am - 6 pm. Saturday: 11 am - 4 pm.
Exhibitions at A-Galerii are supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
The exhibition will stay open until 26.09.2026.
