The question if jewellery must be considered an essential for human beings, might lead to contradictive answers, which all arguable are true. For the bare survival of a person, along with food, drink and shelter the answer would be no, but for the survival of humankind, as cultural beings and members of societies, jewellery must be considered an essential mean of communication.

Jewellery dates our civilisation, it exists in all cultures and even at wartime or in imprisonment, humans have not stopped making jewellery.
The exhibition Other Essentials embraces these thoughts, but it also extends the discourse to embrace issue of sustainability and of the personal responsibilities of the individual. The installation needed to present the artwork is built of stacks of preserved foodstuff and all groceries will be donated by the end of the exhibition.
The concept of the presentation is to share different individual artworks, daily discourses and point of views but also to share the economic aids the students received for financing the installation. Works of art have the potential to make people relate to others, hence nurture ability for democracy. In a world full of crisis, this is essential.
Opening: Saturday, 17th of may 14.00 - 16.00 h.
The exhibition is only open:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 19- 21st of May, from 11.00 to 18.00 h.
