In their solo exhibition Otherselves, jewellery designer Noon Passama explores the deep connections between humans and other creatures. They draw inspiration from the twelve animals of the Thai and Chinese zodiac – symbols they have known since childhood – and transform them into jewellery worn close to the body. These animals don’t just mark time; they also represent traits and values that guide and connect people.
Artist list
Noon Passama
Noon Passama, Françoise van den Bosch Award 2024, works across jewellery, fashion, and design. They create handmade collections in small editions, sometimes for the luxury market. Collaboration is central to their practice. For Otherselves, they worked with illustrator Suthipa Kamyam and engraver Detelina Ivanova.
Six years ago, a dog named Moon entered Noon Passama’s life, forming a bond unlike any before. Daily rhythms shifted around Moon, and encounters with others who shared such deep connections led to reflections on the symbolic and metaphysical ways humans relate to other beings.
This reflection drew the artist to the cultural role of nonhuman life forms, particularly the twelve figures of the Thai and Chinese Zodiac, symbols known since childhood. Beyond marking time, they embody traits and values that guide, connect, and root people in the interplay of nature and culture. Their ubiquity fosters global recognition and personal reinterpretation, inviting individuals to explore their own bonds with these motifs.
OTHERSELVES celebrates this kinship by translating the Zodiac into jewellery worn close to the body. The pieces are realised as a shared act through hand labour and symbol translation, connecting the makers to each other and to the motifs, in collaboration with artist-illustrator Suthipa Kamyam and glyptic artist Detelina Ivanova.
The board of the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation has the honour to invite you to the exhibition OTHERSELVES.
Noon Passama shows their latest work OTHERSELVES together with original illustrations by Suthipa Kamyam and their translations into reverse intaglios by Detelina Ivanova.
The solo exhibition runs from 1 November 2025 to 1 February 2026 and is organised in collaboration with Museum Arnhem.
