Schmuck Verbindet (Jewellery Links) is the name of a project which brings together 13 jewellery artists from Turkey. The first exhibition of the project was conceived by ‘Labor im Chor’ Gallery’s partner Alkie Osterland and the jewellery artist Şenay Akın with the aim to show stylistically and technically idiosyncratic work by Turkish jewellery artists from different generations and different backgrounds. It soon evolved into an independent and long-term project.
A selection of work designed from unconventional materials such as synthetic sponge, porcelain, wood, plastic, silicone and polyurethane, as well as from typically precious materials allows a short look at the current tendencies of the local art jewellery scene.
It also shows common patterns and themes between different artists such as strong chromatic expressions present in the work of Burcu Sulek, Nevin Arig, Aisegul Telli and Hakan Aktug; Nature-inspired forms of Nazan Pak, Ela Cindoruk and Senay Akin; fragile and poetic work of Burcu Buyukunal, Selen Ozus and Gozde Erdogan and passion for up-cycling shared by jewellers Gulnur Ozdaglar, Snem Yildirim and Leyla Taranto.
Next Venues:
“Melting Point” the international meeting of contemporary jewellery days in Valencia between April 26 and 29.
The ECNP Gallery Istanbul in the autumn of 2018.
