Lera Ginsburg x Elbwood: Sound, Material, and Meaning

Lera Ginsburg works at the intersection of sound, visual language, and emotional resonance. Through her method of matter.sound.form, she explores how meaningful sounds can be transformed into visual structures and tangible objects. For this project, she analyzed the voice recording of Dr. Iryna Tybinka, Consul General of Ukraine in Hamburg, and translated its frequencies and dynamics into a visual sound form — a spectral pattern engraved onto the barrel of two handcrafted writing instruments.

The pens come from Frank Pressentin’s POCKETMASTER series, designed and made by hand under the name ELBWOOD. Known for their precision, thoughtful materials, and balanced aesthetics, ELBWOOD writing instruments reflect a quiet dialogue between function and expression.

This collaboration has resulted in an object that goes far beyond utility — it becomes a poetic vessel for sound, memory, and artistic intention.

The two engraved pens are being raffled as part of a time-limited fundraising campaign in support of the UNO Refugee Aid.
