Statement
For 18 years, I have dedicated myself to seeking a form in jewelry inspired by sound. As a jewelry designer and musician, I understand that transmitting sound through an object is a highly challenging task. Music, in particular, encompasses a multitude of nuances that we perceive with our entire being, yet remain intangible. Nevertheless, I embrace this challenge and endeavor to visualize sound as I experience it.Simultaneously, I acknowledge that I can never convey all the intricacies of vibrations, tones, and shades that unfold before my inner eye. Accepting this entails respecting the magnitude of something and allowing myself to draw inspiration from it.
In my latest collection named "Gong," I experimented with the sound wave of an Indian gong. It was an attempt to encounter myself after hearing the gong's sound, reflected in these pieces of jewelry. The two halves of the ring became a symbol of this encounter with myself - to listen, to question, and to listen again.
In my artistic work, I explore the intersection between sound and form. The transformation from sound to form is a collaborative process with my clients. Together, we seek sounds that hold personal significance for them, and I craft objects whose form encapsulates the underlying sound idea. I employ various techniques, from a specially developed Sonic-Design-Tool to drawings and manual 3D modeling.
My latest collection, "GONG," invites introspection and embodies concentration, focus, and transformation. The wearable pieces of this collection, shaped from the essence of the gong, encourage pausing to listen, both to oneself and to the world. Through the "GONG" collection, I express my quest for deeper meaning and reflection in contemporary art.
My artistic journey commenced with my training as a violinist, followed by studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim. Exploring the relationship between sound and visual art is integral to my synesthetic worldview. The establishment of Lera Ginsburg Jewelry in 2006 marked the beginning of my journey in jewelry design, which now continues in my "Sounding Shapes.“
