Intro
Born in Hirosaki, Japan, and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Otto Künzli, Kamata has developed a unique visual language using unconventional materials such as camera lenses, mirrors, and pigments, combining them with precious metals like gold and silver. His experimental approach redefines the relationship between jewellery, light, and perception.
You are warmly welcome to join us for the upcoming lecture by contemporary jewellery artist Jiro Kamata.

His works often incorporate optical effects, reflection, and transparency, encouraging viewers to see beyond the ornament and engage with perception itself. By blurring the boundaries between jewellery, fine art, and design, Kamata's pieces question how jewellery functions not only as adornment but also as a medium of vision and memory.

He has exhibited internationally in institutions and galleries such as the Schmuck exhibition in Munich, Ornamentum Gallery in Hudson, and numerous contemporary jewellery platforms worldwide. His works are part of prominent public and private collections, including Die Neue Sammlung in Munich and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. Kamata lives and works in Munich.

The lecture will be held at 18:30h in Aula Dieperik.
Language: English. Free admission.
