13 July 2026 / Creative Links: Comparing the Ethics of Recycled and Mined Gold
Time: 6 pm – 7.30 pm
Price: £15 (includes a glass of wine or soft drink)

Ticket link: https://www.goldsmiths-centre.org/whats-on/creative-links-comparing-the-ethics-of-recycled-and-mined-gold/
What do we mean when we describe a metal as 'recycled'? Is it always the most ethical choice for jewellers, and how does it compare to mined metals in terms of environmental, social and economic impact?
Join Brussels-based designer goldsmith, writer and ethical metals advocate Saskia Shutt for an engaging discussion exploring the complexities behind sourcing precious metals. Drawing on her work with Fair Luxury and Ethical Metalsmiths, Saskia will unpack the meaning of recycled metal, examine the range of options available to makers, and consider whether recycled metals can truly be considered an ethical choice.
The event begins with an opportunity to network with peers, followed by Saskia's talk and a Q&A session where participants are invited to join the conversation and share perspectives.
