Akis Goumas
Akis Goumas is a contemporary jewelry maker and researcher specializing in ancient goldsmithing techniques of the Aegean. Born in Greece in 1952, he studied economics before training in goldsmithing, silversmithing, gemology, and seal engraving. He has taught jewelry making since 2000 and collaborates with schools in Florence and Athens. Goumas has exhibited widely across Europe and worked with museums on archaeological research into prehistoric metal technologies. He has received fellowships from Harvard University and Homo Faber. and in recently contributed to the Benaki Museum’s Art in Gold exhibition as a technical advisor and jewelry maker.
