About Maria Sais Fluvià
A jeweler, object-maker, painter and art therapist based in Barcelona. She studied economics to understand the world and began studying art to survive in it. She trained in technical jewelry at La Massana and Taller Perill, and later studied contemporary jewelry and body ornamentation at Alchimia. She worked as a studio assistant for Ruudt Peters in Amsterdam and Iris Eichenberg in Detroit.
Upon returning to Barcelona, she began applying art and the creative process to social and community projects and trained in transdisciplinary art therapy. She currently works as an art therapist, supporting recovery processes related to addiction and mental health and teaches technical and expressive jewellery-related workshops.
In her artistic practice, she combines large-scale painting, narrative and body-related objects, artistic books and diaries and writing. Also, anything she finds in between.
The workshop will be structured as follows:
- A brief introduction to the types of pigments, binding media, and solvents/thinners, exploring cold, torch-fired, and kiln-fired procedures.
- Basic procedures for applying the techniques.
- Variations, effects, textures and combinations of techniques.
- Experimentation and application, creating a sample chart with the different techniques learned.
- Finishing and protective treatments.
For each technique, we will explore the possibilities of:
- Application on flat surfaces and on volume.
- Application tools and utensils.
- Thicknesses, layers and scratching.
- Grooves, bas-reliefs, surface textures and reliefs.
- Combination with other color techniques (especially patinas).
- Combination with drawing and illustration techniques (graphite, charcoal, etc.).
