The annual International Jewellery Competition is the main event of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER, organized by the Gallery of Art in Legnica since 1979.
317 works by 189 artists from 30 countries – this was the impressive number of objects assessed by the jury of the 31st International Jewellery Competition Quality.
Artists from almost every corner of Europe, as well as more distant regions such as Iran, Israel, Taiwan, China or the Republic of Korea, enthusiastically took up the theme of the current edition of the competition, each in their own individual way. Some artists were tempted to reflect on quality in jewellery and contemporary art in general. Others, however, followed the question of human and universal themes – reflecting in particular on the aspect of quality of life, which – despite technological progress unknown in the history of mankind in the past - seems to be systematically and alarmingly decreasing. Is more always better? Is fast better than slow? Is there any point today in asking the question: to have or to be?
The jurors had a challenging job - not made any easier by the variety of interpretations of the themes, as well as the technologies, techniques and materials used by the artists. During two days of deliberations (9-10 February 2023), from among the jewellery and objects displayed in the gallery in Legnica, they selected the works qualified for the main exhibition and decided on the awards.

The jury was also joined by David Sandu from Romania, who – in 2006 – opened the first contemporary jewelry gallery in Romania and participated in numerous international exhibitions. In 2010, David Sandu sets the foundations of Assamblage School of Contemporary Jewelry and Assamblage National Jewelry Association, playing a major role in the formation of a new generation of artists and designers. In 2020, he became a founding member and curator of the international event Romanian Jewelry Week, alongside Ioana Andrei and Valentina Buzamurga, an event already at its third edition.
Ana Pina – another juror, divides her work between her personal brand, launched in 2012, and Tincal lab, that is since 2015 an active contemporary jewellery workshop and exhibition space, featuring curated workshops with invited jewelers, individual and collective exhibitions, by local and international artists. The highlight of these events is Tincal lab Challenge, launched every year with a different theme - an international open call that results in a collective exhibition that aims to inspire artists and increase public awareness of contemporary jewellery.

For more than thirty years she takes part in exhibitions and symposiums at home and abroad.
